[Day 2, Night - A House South of Town]

[Written into the ground alongside one of the houses to the south of town tonight are a series of strange letters, forming a rough circle near the wall. A figure of approximately Loki's build, not there during the day's exploration, leans against the wall at the corner. The door to the house is open.]

[Some hours after the sudden switch from day to night, Loki stands in front of the door, a candle before him, a kitchen knife in one hand and a spoon in the other. He checks the mirror set carefully in the darkness, nothing yet visible in its surface. Then he strikes the knife with the spoon's handle, and he holds his breath - and he waits.]

[Pauses.]

I dream of them, sometimes. It astounds that even one wished me returned.

... Your brother?

Ah. Family.

Father? Yes, thank god.

I thought we spoke of siblings. Have you none of those?

A brother. Equally incapable of love.

Ah.

But yours loved you very much.

[Nods.]

He did much for me.

Like resurrecting you. Despite the fact that he didn't specifically resurrect you.

[Ow. You know, I didn't think that could have hurt in ways it didn't already. Thanks for that.]

And then keeping me from those who would do me harm.

[ I'm smart like that ]

Clearly unsuccessful in that endeavor.

He did what he was able, and I did the same. If the combination was not always so successful as it might have been, the fault hardly lies with him.

Oh, I know very well how that sort of thing turns out. Still.

Had you a point?

Are you truly certain that he loves you?

[A long pause.]

He has no art for dissembling, nor the need to say a thing if it were not so.
