[Day 2, Night - A House South of Town]

[Written into the ground alongside one of the houses to the south of town tonight are a series of strange letters, forming a rough circle near the wall. A figure of approximately Loki's build, not there during the day's exploration, leans against the wall at the corner. The door to the house is open.]

[Some hours after the sudden switch from day to night, Loki stands in front of the door, a candle before him, a kitchen knife in one hand and a spoon in the other. He checks the mirror set carefully in the darkness, nothing yet visible in its surface. Then he strikes the knife with the spoon's handle, and he holds his breath - and he waits.]

...have you been injured?

[shakes her head]

I am fine. . . . are you unhurt?

[Nods, though he rubs absently at his chest as though it aches or something feels strange.]

It did not reach me.

[she eyes that curiously, peeking out of her hood - she's pale, much paler than she normally is]

Good.

You've gone white as bone.

I am fine.

In what sense?

[lifts a shaky hand to rub at her face]

Whatever that was . . . it had dark magic. I am reeling a bit from it.

[Rubs at his chest again, almost unconsciously.]

You've the ability to sense magic... do you not?

I do, yes.

What manner of power did it have?

[. . . rubs at her face again]

Dark magic. I cannot tell precisely what sort, but . . . mm. I felt it.

Powerful. It was powerful.

I've no doubt of that.

Quite.

[she takes a deep breath, then drags herself to her feet, a little unsteady] Whatever it was, though . . . it is gone, now.

[Doesn't answer that. :|b]

What will you do now?

. . . I've little energy left to go looking around. I will see to any injuries, then take my leave for the night, I think.

I would speak with you, in the morning.

. . . if you wish to. You are welcome to accompany me back, as well.

I have things that I need yet attend.

Go before me. Take your rest.

[Pauses.]

Bathe, as well. This substance... it troubles the mind.

. . . yes.

Then we shall speak in the morning, then?

[Nods.]
