snappingturtle: (Lookin' good!)

(no subject)

[So, after a hard morning of adventuring, our heroes are having a much needed rest back at the inns with their prizes. Some people may be busily chatting over the different robot parts that were found scattered across the city, but the turtles have bigger fish to fry.

Literally.

The kitchen of the Sword, Shield, and Spear is a flurry of activity and delicious smells in between Rapunzel flitting about and Mikey and Raph following after her to give basic instructions. The construction of pizza is an art after all.]

It's real easy! I mean—I don't get the dough, but the important thing to remember is dough, sauce, toppings. The dough's just to hold everything else together.

Journeys? What do you mean?

Where are you from?

A little town called Shrike, but I've traveled through many of the Regions.

If you know what a Region is.

If 'Earth' doesn't ring a bell, I probably don't.

[Just furrows her brows for a moment. Wow, this really is another world]

[Wow]

I see.

Is that why I don't get the reference?

Probably.

Earth is a planet, home to about six billion humans and various numbers of other species. 'Region' would normally refer to some geographical part of it—an area with a certain climate, or boundaries that are larger than a city but smaller than a country.

It doesn't sound like that's quite what you mean.

Not quite. A Region is [Well a region. How does one even explain such things?] it definitely has its own boundaries and climate and culture. But it's impossible to travel to a neighboring Region on foot. You had to use either magic or take an airship.

But I think I get it. What Earth is like.

An airship?

What kind of airship?

What kind...?

[Uh, things that Asellus never paid much attention to]

Well if you went to one of the more ritzy regions like Manhattan, it was this sleek red thing. Very nice ride and could fit a lot of people. But if you went to one of the less traveled regions, sometimes it felt like the ship was going to fall apart before you even got there.

Ha ha, it always made it though. Somehow.

Did they jump . . . ? Travel between spaces without traveling through anything that seems real.

Sometimes when you looked out the window, colors would streak by. Mostly blue and white.

Haaah, I never really thought about what we were flying through.

If it's just part of your life, there would never really be a reason to.

What do you think Earth is like?

I-- It's hard to picture to be honest. Are there great shifts when you walk into a different area? Or is it more like one area that goes on for miles upon miles?

More like the second. There are changes, but they're gradual—plains turning into hills, hills rising into mountains. Cities spreading out into suburbs, and thinning into farms, and forests. Islands and continents spotted by lakes and rivers and surrounded by saltwater oceans.

The continent I know best takes about five months to cross on foot, east to west.
