[ Over the murmur of conversations, explorations and violent attempts at escape, there comes a sound tick tick tick tick tick.............. CLICK.... The sky above snaps across the dome from blue to black... and everything goes dark.

A glow comes from the front door of each of the inns and one by one, you can see street lanterns begin to light up steadily past each of the gates.

The only flickering, organic light comes from above in the tower, spluttering high, high above everyone, through the slats of the closed shutters. After a moment, it's gone. ]

It is clockwork. I daresay there will be something.

The only pattern I want to deduce right now is our rooms. Loki said the cards that we were shown by the hands should match the corridor marked by the door with the same symbol.

Ah, yes. The red salmon, as I recall.

And mine was like a forest scene, trees with a deer or stag in the background.

... Then we may need to attempt a key swap.

Each corridor has its own symbol.

So we're in completely different corridors.

Though the actual distance may not be much further than our rooms at the Brownstone.

The difference being that there's potentially others staying within that distance.

[sighs a bit, one hand on the back of her neck]

We'll see how it goes tonight. If we still want to switch with someone, it might be easier after everyone has calmed down a bit by tomorrow.

Nor is that enough time for anyone to become unduly attached. If I must, I will make camp in the hall outside your door.

I don't think that'll be necessary.

I spend most nights on the floor downstairs. It would hardly be much of a change.

Then at least you can be on the floor inside my room, if it comes to that.

Wouldn't that be a violation of your privacy?

It's not ideal, but if you're bound and determined to act like a watchdog for me, the least I can do is let you in out of the hallway.

I am merely attempting to simulate our previous living situation.

Let's see if someone will switch before we make any grand plans.

So this really is reality. Somehow.

Indeed. A close examimation of the underlying rules of this place is likely the next step, as it clearly does not follow any that we would consider normal.

Well hopefully it still follows the rules of a kitchen having food. Whoever runs this place can't expect us to eat wooden food like the tray I was holding earlier.

Starvation would be a rather quick way to remove us "thieves," hmm?
